It is just by chance that we see the toucans outside our window, and we were fortunate to see two at once.

We see these little animals called Guatin live across the street from our apartment.

You can eat all kinds of things on the streets or in the restaurants but you do have the option of not eating it!

Ninos en Riesgo Blanket Project

The Ninos en Riesgo program is one of the projects that we support in Quito. This month all the kids received a blanket, always useful on the cold nights sleeping out in the park.

One of the other projects we are working with in Ecuador is building a church building for a mission group in Cheka. The group has been able to start by clearing the space and getting the first floor finished.

As the project is able to raise the finances, they will continue to add on until they have the building finished. Like most projects in Ecuador, you don't have to have all the money or all the building done to get started!

The start of the process...

With the first floor completed, they now have a place to meet inside out of the weather and to invite more people to attend. We will be heading to Ecuador next week to check in on the projects and see what we can do to help further. Your prayers and any financial support are always a blessing and an encouragement!

As we finish our first year here in Armenia, we are getting ready to start an English Bible study through the church here. Hopefully that will give us more opportunities to reach out to those at work and those just wanting to practice their English that will get exposed to the Word. We are also helping out with community outreach with supplies and support to some of the poor barrios near the church.

Many people have commented on the cookies that we bake for various occasions, and so we are going to teach a group of local women as they want to sell them to help to make money to support their families. Who would have thought the chocolate chip cookie could change people's lives?

One message that I heard recently that really impacted me was the idea of "constructing a cathedral in time." The idea is to create your own space where you worship, rest, and work on your relationship with God that is where you are. You don't have to go to a special building or build a beautiful church to have that special place. It's like having a time capsule or bubble that you put yourself in to get away from the life around you and just be with God.

You never know what purpose God has for you in a place, but it's interesting to hear people in our Bible study say that we are not at all what their opinion of Americans is. If I teach my students any one lesson that sticks, I hope it is the one that you can't make generalizations; you need to let the individual speak for themselves, and hopefully present a good image that will reflect well on their particular group. If any country needs that philosophy it is Colombia which always gets the bad rap as a drug dealing, guerilla-infested danger zone; live here or visit here for even a short period of time and you'll see how far that is from the truth. I would vote for President Uribe to be the next president of The United States over any of the current candidates because he really cares about his country and works to make it a better place for everyone.

Next month should bring new information and news about current and new projects that God will allow us to be a part of this year!
